First Friday-September 3rd
It’s time to hit Broad Street again and celebrate Richmond’s signature downtown arts event. Please note that First Friday has venues north and south of Broad, e.g. The Richmond Public Library and Gallery 5 and has expanded eastward as far as CenterStage and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. So put on your walking shoes and make an evening of it. Grab some dinner before or after and get a glimpse of downtown at its best.
Visit the First Friday website for more info.

WANTED: Flotsam, Jetsam and Other Odd Treasures
This ad from Carver on Richmond Freecycle today.
I am still looking for one of those empty cable spools for my eccentric friend. Paperback classic French novels in French, strange bits of flotsam and odd treasures that may be your trash. Previous collection was wiped out in a massive room sweep for bed bugs at his assisted living facility. I’ll sift through and haul away your small box of junk.
Respond through Freecycle or email paxham@hotmail.com .
New free stuff appears everyday. To see stuff in your neighborhood simply search for Carver, Jackson Ward, Downtown, etc. You must sign into Yahoo to participate.

In 2008, a neglected residence in Jackson Ward was caught in a snare of tax liens and code violations and deteriorating from the roof to the foundation. Demolition by neglect was a looming threat to this vacant Italianate townhouse. Saving 106 1/2 East Clay Street was a cooperative effort between the City of Richmond, the Alliance, and local private developers Three Strands Management.

Cabbie foils 4:00 AM robbery on Broad Street
If you are going to solicit fares at 4:20 am on (100 W.) Broad Street, you’ve got to be prepared to deal with the consequences. Apparently this one was. Per the RTD:
When he pulled over, rolled down the passenger window and asked them if they needed a cab, one of them told him to pull around the corner and off of Broad. The cabbie refused, and one of the males put a handgun through the open window and pointed it at him. The cabbie told detectives he slapped at the gun and it fell onto the front seat, so he quickly drove from the scene and called police.
