a map of when houses were built

Trulia Hindsight is an animated map of homes in the United States. The animations use the year the properties were built to show the growth of streets, neighborhoods and cities over time. View the map.

There is a mysterious *explosion* of new houses at 1900…

It is not accurate. My house was built in the 1850s yet it appears in the 1900 surge. Most of Jackson Ward predates 1900.

Tripp, I’m glad you’ve commented. I was beginning to think that John and I were the only ones here… You’re right about the dates. Someone at city hall years ago told me that ’1900′ just means that nobody knows just when the house was built. I believe there is a way to have the city correct the date…in fact I think there is a reference to that somewhere on the CHPN site.

Ann is right. If the building date is unknown the Assessor data base filled in 1900 automatically. If you do the research on your property and get an accurate date the City Tax Assessor’s office will change their records. The best place to research is in the basement of the John Marshall Courts Building where all the deed books are located. The people there are helpful in doing a chain of title search.
