African-American Heritage guided bus tour

Explore four centuries of powerful history! Remember the era of Richmond’s slave traders, examine the role of free blacks and urban slaves, discuss the contributions of blacks during the Civil War, revisit the African American experience during Reconstruction and the Jim Crow era, and honor the impact of the lives of prominent Richmonders, including Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Maggie L. Walker, Arthur Ashe and Douglas Wilder.

The tour includes a trip through historic Jackson Ward, frequently referred to as the “Birthplace of Black Capitalism,” and a visit to the Maggie L. Walker Historic Site. Meet your guide at the Richmond History Center, 1015 E. Clay Street, at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 10th. Cost is $20.00 for adults; $17.00 for children 6-18 years old and History Center members; children under 6 free. Includes admission to the History Center day of tour. Advance reservations are required. Call (804) 649-0711 ext. 301 for more information and to make your reservation.
