perhaps the VCU police now have better things to do than speed trap on Leigh Street
Much has been made of the shooting of VCU student in Carver last week. How nice of VCU students to wander into Richmond’s violence and get people to pay attention, as otherwise folks not right up on it tend not notice. Perhaps now the VCU police can find more police-like things to do than speed trap on Leigh Street or to give tickets for expired inspection stickers.

Eco Flats, the colorful and the “environmentally friendly development” at Leigh and Belvidere, is now leasing units including a 3 bedroom store front apartment for $1575/month and a more typical 2-bedroom for $975/month.

2nd District Endorsements rolling in…
Two of the three candidates for the 2nd District City Council seat have been racking up the endorsements. Charles Samuels has been endorsed by outgoing 2nd District representative and mayoral candidate Bill Pantele, the Richmond Crusade For Voters, the Henrico-based Richmond Association of Realtors, and the Coalition for Greater Richmond; Tyron Bey has been endorsed by the Richmond Education Association.

Sector 413 report for September

Lieutenant Drew’s monthly report from September (PDF) for the Richmond Police Departments Sector 413 (which covers Jackson Ward) is now available:
September was a tough month for Sector 413. We achieved a 20% reduction in violent crime, however; we had a 16% increase in property crime which left us with an overall increase in major crime of 11% for the month. The biggest crimes that we face in this Sector continue to be robberies, thefts from cars and thefts of bicycles.

African American Seniors (90+) invited to share their stories of life in Richmond in the early 1900′s
The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of African American Studies, in collaboration with the Richmond City Council Slave Trail Commission and Elegba Folklore Society, is inviting all African Americans, 90-years of age and above, who were born and raised in Richmond and the surrounding area, to participate in the Richmond African American Oral History Project.
