Croaker’s takes a few tries to get it right
nbc12′s Restaurant Report recently turned their great lidless eye on Leigh Street’s Croaker’s Spot and found a few issues:
And in Richmond, Croaker’s Spot at 119 East Leigh Street had 5 critical violations, including many fruit flies observed when door was removed at an ice tea station due to grime and debris. Petition circulating on favor of parking restrictions
Jackson Ward neighbors are seeking a parking restriction to help ensure that residents can more readily find parking:
“We have a problem particularly during the day when people who work downtown, city hall, MCV, state, come in to the neighborhood, park their cars and leave them all day,” said Historic Jackson Ward Association President, Charles Finley.
Finley is hoping to change that. He and several other residents have started a petition hoping for signatures from neighbors to make designated areas for residents only.

Gallery Submission Calls For 2010

Gallery 5 will be celebrating its 5th anniversery in 2010 with 4 juried shows and a month long birthday celebration in March.
February 2010:
Sleight of Hand 2: A National Juried Craft Competition
The Sleight of Hand II exhibition at Gallery5 seeks craft-makers who push the boundaries and definitions of craft. Craft-making is too often pigeon-holed into traditional definitions of basic utilitarian objects in clay, glass, wood, or metal. In reality, most craft-makers are not unlike fine artists in many respects. They push new concepts, introduce new materials and techniques, expand old techniques and use traditional materials in new ways. Gallery5 invites craft-makers fitting this criteria to submit their works to Sleight of Hand II. Read more >

First Friday rescheduled to Jan.8
… so don’t go tomorrow night unless it’s for dinner and stroll. There is other good news from the Curated Culture blog:
Christina is moving back downtown – “we’ll have an office space at 323 West Broad Street at the Artisan Alley building. Artisan Alley is an old warehouse/storefront on Broad Street that’s built out for individual studio/office spaces, so you’ll find an eclectic mix of artists, small businesses, and artist exhibition space open during First Fridays”
