Gallery Submission Calls For 2010

Gallery5

Gallery 5 will be celebrating its 5th anniversery in 2010 with 4 juried shows and a month long birthday celebration in March.

February 2010:
Sleight of Hand 2: A National Juried Craft Competition

The Sleight of Hand II exhibition at Gallery5 seeks craft-makers who push the boundaries and definitions of craft. Craft-making is too often pigeon-holed into traditional definitions of basic utilitarian objects in clay, glass, wood, or metal. In reality, most craft-makers are not unlike fine artists in many respects. They push new concepts, introduce new materials and techniques, expand old techniques and use traditional materials in new ways. Gallery5 invites craft-makers fitting this criteria to submit their works to Sleight of Hand II.

March 2010
Model Citizen: A Local Fashion Showcase and Exhibition

Gallery5 is excited to announce Model Citizen, a month long exhibition opening March 5th as part of the First Fridays Art Walk. Model Citizen will showcase the best of Richmond’s fashion industry and seeks to inform the audience of the abundance of local talent and offerings and encourage local shopping and community involvement. The exhibition will kick off with a two-day event held Friday and Saturday, March 5th and 6th including runway shows from our favorite boutiques, live music, workshops, a student fashion design contest, DJs, dancing, and more.

April 2010
Gallery5 “5 Year Anniversary Month Long Celebration”

We are looking for images of visual and performance events, exhibitions, benefits and workshops held at Gallery5 from the past 5 years. These interior and exterior photos will be used in our April 5 Year Anniversary month-long exhibition and fundraiser to highlight the past 5 years of our organization and celebrate our great community of artists and art enthusiasts.

Repressed V: It’s Free to Speak

What makes statement driven art so emotionally powerful? It being witness to a piece of work that creates a bond between you, the viewer and the creator of the piece. A bond that can change the direction of thought and purpose.
A successfully executed statement driven piece can be the catalyst that inspires the average person into an active agent for change. Art exists in societies to create a shared dialogues and experiences. No matter the medium, art and artists can be the spark to establishing a commonality, to allow us to empathize with each other and encourage altruistic pursuits for the greater good.
